The Cistena purple leaf flowering plum is very beautiful and showy in the spring. Cistena Plum is known for its fragrant pinkish flowers which pop out in the spring. Striking oval leaves emerge red and turn purplish-red as they mature. This striking color will remain through the summer. You can allow the shrub to grow quite large and use as a hedge. Once it has finished flowering you can prune it back to keep as a smaller bush. This is a fast growing and drought tolerant shrub. The purple leaf plum can mature 4 to 6 feet wide. This plant loves the sunshine and will make an impact wherever planted. This is not a fruit bearing variety.
