The Flying Dragon Orange is a unique ornamental looking
citrus tree. It is an interesting small, thorny tree that produces edible, but
very sour fruit that can be used as a lemon seasoning. The tree has curved
shaped thorns and branches that contort which give the impression of a flying
dragon. It makes for a great addition to yard. It is a deciduous tree and when
the leaves fall yellow fruit will hang.
It also makes a great tree to Bonsai.
The fruits are green, ripening to yellow and are 3–4 cm in
size similar to a lime and resembling a small orange, but with a fuzzy texture
similar to a peach. The fruits also have distinctive smell from other citrus
varieties and often contain a high concentration of seeds. It will produce a
white flower with a pink stamen and has a very unique trifold leaf. With citrus
trees the leaves give off a spicy smell when crushed. The fruit can be used to
make marmalade and lemon seasoning.
