A stately, strong, and long-lived tree with beautiful fall color, the Shumard oak is a great selection for yards. This adaptable species has been successfully grown in urban areas where air pollution, poor drainage, compacted soil, and/or drought are common, making it a fine choice for street trees as well. Deer and squirrel also love its small acorns.
The Shumard oak features deciduous leaves that are 4”-8” long and deeply-lobed, with bristles on the tips of some lobes. It produces brown or greenish catkins in the spring. It also yields egg-shaped acorns that are 1” in length and enclosed at the base in a thick, flat, saucer-shaped cup. The acorns are produced every 2-4 years.

I opened it right away and watered it as it was a little dry then planted it the next morning. This was a late April planting, which is later than ideal but before the hot summer months. Within 3 weeks it already has new leaves so is taking well to its new environment.Verified Buyer RecommendedLove my Shumard Oak!KorttyLocation: AZDate: May 18, 2017Never heard of this Oak until one day I saw a large one for sale at my local nursery. Found this one much more reasonably priced. Ordered and couldn't be happier! I have planted my Oak and it's growing strong! Very pleased.Verified Buyer Recommended2 Total Reviews
