Description

A blackberry for your garden! Growing your own blackberries can be easy and fun. Grow bushels of healthy, flavorful blackberries that can be eaten fresh off the bush. There is nothing better than blackberry preserves or hot blackberry cobbler and ice cream. Remember your grandmother’s fresh blackberry tart? Not only are you saving money but you are getting fresh fruit from your own blackberry bush.

Brazos Blackberry is a medium to large firm, attractive blackberry with a sweet, but lightly tart flavor. Developed by Texas A&M University, Brazos Blackberry is the best known and most widely commercially cultivated variety. This thorny, erect bush makes a great addition to your home garden when planted as a hedge row making a dense impenetrable barrier/boundary or grown on a trellis producing sweet berries year after year. They are great to eat fresh, great for cooking and even preserving.

In many cases, you may still want to plant pollinating partners to increase the size of your crop, but self-pollinating varieties doing so is optional.

Brazos Blackberry in South Florida
5 out of 5
Location: Lake Worth, FL
Date: June 2, 2020
It came as a tiny little thing, It looked do frail. I didn't do anything but dig a hole and plant it with the soil it came in. I did nothing to the soil and I don't water it (south florida has had lots of rain lately) my soil is neutral, not acidic, it is in shaded light not direct sunlight most of the day, and it has been growing strong and fast. I get up every morning to see new growth. I have put some pine bark mulch around it. But already it looks strong and viable. Imagine if I actually had good soil, good sunlight, good watering habits, lived in the right growing region, etc. I can highly recommend this, it is so much fun to watch grow on a daily basis.
