Dupont 5131 is 1.25 oz/sq yd (42 g/sq m) spunbonded polypropylene, light enough to float over crops as they emerge and grow. When handled with care, it will last 3-4 seasons or more. It transmits adequate light (approximately 70%) for optimal crop growth. Although this material can in most circumstances provide up to 5-6 degrees of frost protection, it is not considered a frost protection blanket. The primary function is to enhance growth with a daily temperature increment over a period of several weeks. Dupont 5131 will also help to extend the growing season by providing extra protection into the fall.  Features of Dupont 5131: Easy to install -- unfold and secure the edges. Protects crops from wind; however under extremely windy conditions, crops such as tomatoes, pepper, and summer squash might be damaged by the cover. Under such conditions, hoops should be installed to keep the cover off the plants. Rain water readily passes through the cover. Product Description: Dupont 5131 is available in widths of 15, 30, 45, and 60 feet and may be ordered in any length required to cover a specific area. Seams are sewn for strength and durability. Allow 2 weeks from ordering to delivery. Installation Tips Apply when there is minimum wind. Use wider covers for greater application efficiency. Do not try to stretch the cover. Allow it to drape over the crop so that there will be sufficient slack for crop growth. Secure the edges with soil, stones, sandbags, etc. To keep out insects cover the edges with a continuous furrow of soil. Handle with care to prevent tearing. Crops that are suited for Dupont 5131 Vegetables -- all direct seeded crops and transplanted vine crops. To prevent damage to transplanted pepper and tomatoes during windy conditions, hoops should be used under the cover. Small fruits -- cover strawberries in late fall or early spring. Cut flowers -- Hoops might be required where wind is a problem. Timing of planting, covering, and cover removal Generally, crops may be planted about 10 days earlier than normal when covers are applied at planting. The covers will remain on warm season crops for about 3 weeks until pollination is needed or until the crop out-grows the space under the cover. For many direct seeded crops, leave the cover on until harvest. Covers may be left on into the fall and may provide an extra harvest for late season crops. Dupont 5131 is an effective over-wintering cover for strawberries. Shipping is not included.
