The M12K Pioneer Purple Martin House includes the roof perch, guard rails, swing-out doors, winter door stops, and mounting bracket. The M12K Pioneer actually pioneered the aluminum Martin housing industry. In 1962, twenty eight of these houses were installed along the main thoroughfare in Griggsville, Illinois in a successful attempt to control an abundance of insects. With few changes, the M12K Pioneer is still a most popular house.
