The Catalpa Tree belongs to the Bignonia family, a group of mostly tropical plants. The catalpas have very large leaves and fruits which resemble slender hanging pods. The leaves can be anywhere from 6 – 12 inches long and 3 – 8 inches wide. The average Catalpa averages between 40 and 60 feet. The petiole will be 4 – 6 inches long. The fall color of the leaves will be yellow or brown, but they often fall off before they turn colors.
The Northern Catalpa has beautiful white flowers with some yellow and purple on the inside. The flowers will bloom from May to June. The blooms are around 2 inches long and wide. The fruits can be 8 -20 inches long and a little less than a half inch wide. It is a site to see!
